More February feathers

Have really had to work on these feathers and to make matters worse, my FMQ machine is in the shop! Amazing how you can get attached to the feel of a particular machine, isn't it. Anyhow here are a few pics of my latest practice. Still not quite there enough to put in my sampler, but definitely approaching muscle memory.

Here are my first 4 days of practice. Was pretty discouraged on day 1,but hanging in there, a few tips from a good friend and a good re-read of DG's tutorial, and I have hope!

January was great. Those leaves are definitely in my muscle memory. Great tutorial from Frances Moore. Started my FMQ sampler.

Practice for real

I thought it would be a good idea to use some of my UFO'S for real world practice in this challenge, so here's my first project. I put the leafy vine in the border-all with red thread- Hard to see, but it gave me a good workout in multi-directional leaves. That's something I tend to have a big problem with. Hopefully this challenge will get me over that!

Foundation for quilt sampler

I decided that I want to do a quilt sampler piece to document the finished product of this yearlong challenge, so last night I dug out some hand dyes we did years ago, and put together one of the layout suggestions. I'm trying to decide whether or not to use all one color thread (black) or choose a different contrasting thread for each block. Any suggestions? Feel free to weigh in!

Second January sandwich

Trying to get this second picture posted, but I can't remember how I did it the first time. For some reason I can't seem to upload directly from my iPad but have to first upload to he web. There's got to be an easier way.
